Vattakottai Fort

Vattakottai Fort is a granite coastal fort in the Kanniyakumari district featuring thick stone walls with strategically positioned watchtowers. The structure covers a rectangular area and displays the defensive design typical of its era.

Built in the 18th century under King Marthanda Varma, the fort was constructed under the supervision of Eustachius De Lannoy, a former Dutch naval officer. This collaboration reflected the maritime connections that shaped the region.
