Mama Bhagne, Natural rock formation in Dubrajpur, India.
Mama Bhagne is a geological formation made of two large granite boulders in the hills of the region, with one stone balanced precisely on top of the other. The two massive spheres appear stacked together, creating an unusual and almost surreal structure.
The formation became known nationwide after appearing in the 1962 film Abhijan directed by filmmaker Satyajit Ray. This role in the classic film brought the site later attention from visitors.
The formation's name comes from Bengali words expressing family bonds, and a temple called Pahareswar dedicated to the god Shiva sits at the base of the rocks.
The site lies about 23 kilometers from Siuri and is easy to reach, especially when taking a day trip from Santiniketan. The area has good rail connections to Kolkata, making it convenient for tourists to visit.
The two stones are made of a mix of pink quartz, gray feldspar, and black mica, marking the eastern boundary of the Chhotanagpur Plateau. This geological makeup distinguishes this formation from other rock boulders nearby.
