Rukmini Devi Temple

Rukmini Devi Temple, Hindu temple in Dwarka, India

Rukmini Devi Temple stands about two kilometers from central Dwarka and features intricately carved marble decorations showing Hindu deities and traditional elephant motifs on its exterior walls. The structure combines religious architecture with skilled craftsmanship that defines the building's appearance.

The temple's structure dates to the 12th century, while religious texts indicate that worship at this location began more than 2500 years ago. This long tradition of reverence makes the site a place of deep religious origins.

The temple honors Rukmini, the principal wife of Krishna, who is revered as an embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi in Hindu tradition. Daily prayer ceremonies and ritual water offerings shape the spiritual life that visitors can observe here.

The temple welcomes visitors from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM and can be reached via local transportation from central Dwarka. The most favorable time to visit is between November and February when weather conditions are most pleasant.

The temple sits isolated on barren land, a result of a mythological curse by sage Durvasa who separated Rukmini and Krishna for twelve years. This unusual setting reflects a key episode from Hindu mythology.
