Dwarakadhish Temple, Hindu temple in Dwarka, India
Dwarakadhish Temple is a Hindu temple in Dwarka Taluka, India, that rises 43 meters into the sky. The walls display intricate stone carving work, and two entrances are connected by 50 steps.
Archaeological findings show that the original structure was built around 200 BCE. The building was reconstructed during the 15th and 16th centuries after its destruction.
The name derives from Krishna, who is worshipped here as Dwarakadhish or Lord of Dwarka. Priests perform daily rituals that draw pilgrims from all parts of India, underlining the spiritual importance of the site for devotees.
Visiting hours run from 6 AM to 1 PM and from 5 PM to 9:30 PM. During Krishna Janmashtami, the entire complex experiences much heavier attendance.
The two main entrances are called Moksha Dvara and Svarga Dvara, meaning Gate to Salvation and Gate to Heaven. These names reflect the religious symbolism that pilgrims experience when entering the sacred space.
