Bargabhima temple

Bargabhima Temple is a Hindu shrine in Tamluk featuring a spacious courtyard that leads to an inner sanctuary. Inside stands a black stone idol of Goddess Kali positioned beside a Shiva Linga, both central to worship here.

The temple structure originates from over 1000 years ago when it was first built by a ruler of the Mayor dynasty. After Islamic rule spread through Bengal, the shrine was reconstructed and restored to serve its community again.

The temple holds significance as one of the 51 sacred sites connected to the goddess Sati in Hindu belief. Visitors and worshippers come here to pray before the black stone idol of Kali, feeling a deep spiritual connection to the divine feminine.

The temple is open to visitors daily and accessible by road and rail connections in the region. Wear modest clothing and be mindful of ongoing worship, as this remains an active place of prayer and ritual.

This shrine has an uncommon practice of accepting non-vegetarian offerings, particularly cooked fish as part of the daily food blessing. This sets it apart from many other Hindu temples that follow strict vegetarian traditions.
