Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary

Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected nature reserve in Indore covering several square kilometers with varied habitats and plant life. It is home to numerous bird and mammal species, along with teak forests, eucalyptus trees, and bamboo groves.

The area was originally established as hunting grounds by the Holkar dynasty, featuring a palace that served as a strategic hunting lodge. This royal past eventually led to its transformation into a protected sanctuary.

The sanctuary holds a museum displaying dinosaur egg fossils and artifacts that tell the story of the region's natural past. Visitors can explore these collections to learn about the prehistoric life that once existed here.

Bird watching is most rewarding from September through March when migratory species arrive in greater numbers. Guided tours are available throughout the year to help visitors explore the sanctuary and discover its wildlife.

A living green barrier of trees shields the sanctuary from highway noise and traffic, creating a quiet refuge for wildlife. This buffer zone allows animals to thrive in a relatively peaceful environment despite the urban surroundings.
