Trishund Ganpati Mandir

Trishund Ganpati Mandir is a Hindu temple in Somwar Peth with a facade decorated in fine carvings showing mythical creatures and human figures. The structure displays a successful blend of different architectural styles and is designed so visitors move directly into the courtyard to reach the shrine.

The temple's foundation was laid in 1754 by a local spiritual teacher and took about 16 years to complete, placing its construction in a period of cultural growth in Pune. The lengthy building project shows the care with which craftspeople executed every carving and detail of the structure.

The design blends architectural influences from different Indian regions, visible in the carved details across its walls. These carvings show scenes from everyday life and reveal how people at that time understood their world.

The temple has regular opening hours for visitors, though it gets busier during festivities. Especially during Ganesh celebrations, the pathways can be crowded, so it makes sense to visit outside these peak times if you want a quieter experience.

One of the most striking features is the main deity shown with three trunks and six arms, seated on a peacock. This uncommon form sets it apart from typical representations and makes the temple noteworthy for visitors familiar with many other shrines.
