Bakhtiari Dam

Bakhtiari Dam is a hydroelectric power station built as a concrete arch across a river in the Zagros Mountains. The structure harnesses flowing water to generate electricity through a series of turbines positioned inside the dam.

Initial planning for this project began in 1996, with construction starting in 2013. The structure remains under development as the phases of building continue.

The dam represents Iran's commitment to renewable energy infrastructure, affecting local communities in both Lorestan and Khuzestan provinces.

The site is located in mountainous terrain and access may be challenging. It is advisable to check on access conditions and possible restrictions before planning a visit.

This project ranks among the world's tallest dams and will create a massive artificial lake upon completion. Such a large water body would significantly impact regional water management.
