Eram Garden

Eram Garden is a Persian botanical garden located along the northern shore of the Khoshk River in Shiraz, occupying extensive grounds with diverse plantings. The site features ornamental pools, tall palm trees throughout, and a three-story pavilion that rises prominently above the surrounding vegetation.

The site originated in the 12th century during the Seljuk period, though it took its present form when Muhammad Qoli Khan Ilkhani redesigned it in the 1800s. This later transformation established the layout and structures that visitors encounter today.

The garden embodies Persian design principles with symmetrical pathways and water features that guide visitors through carefully planned spaces. Decorative tiles throughout display verses from the poet Hafez, reflecting the literary traditions valued in the region.

Visitors can comfortably explore the grounds on foot thanks to well-maintained pathways throughout the site. Early mornings or late afternoons typically offer pleasant walking conditions and better lighting for viewing the gardens and structures.

The grounds contain a cypress tree that is thousands of years old, standing as a living connection to ancient Persian times. This ancient tree captures visitors' attention as they reflect on its remarkable age and endurance.
