Rudkhan Castle

The stone and brick castle extends 1500 meters along mountain peaks, featuring 65 towers at elevations between 665 and 715 meters above sea level.

Initially constructed during the Sassanian Empire for defense against Arab invaders, the fortress underwent reconstruction in 1096 by the Nizari Ismailis.

The fortress exhibits multiple architectural styles, incorporating elements from Sassanian, Seljuk, Nizari, and Safavid periods in its design and construction methods.

The castle contains two main sections: the western Arg area for rulers and the eastern Qorkhaneh section that served military functions with storage and residential units.

The castle encompasses natural springs, water storage systems, and specialized defensive features including steep loopholes designed for military operations throughout its structure.
