Seimare Dam, Concrete arch dam in Badreh County, Iran.

Seimare Dam is a concrete arch structure that rises 180 meters above the river valley and stretches 202 meters across the water. The curved design helps the dam harness the natural landscape to store water for power generation and agricultural use.

The project started in 1997 when workers diverted the river to prepare the site for construction. Concrete placement began in 2006, and the facility generated its first power in 2013.

The dam exemplifies Iran's infrastructure development since the 1950s, marking domestic engineering capabilities through large-scale water management projects.

The site sits in a narrow mountain valley with steep terrain, so reaching it takes some effort and good footwear. A day trip from the nearest town works best if you want to see the structure from various viewpoints along the approach.

The reservoir stretches about 40 kilometers behind the dam and holds up to 3.2 billion cubic meters of water. This stored water supplies power to the turbines while also serving hundreds of kilometers of farmland downstream.
