Agha Bozorg Mosque

Agha Bozorg is a mosque with an attached theological school in Kashan that brings both functions together in a thoughtful layout with two courtyards at different levels. The complex features fine brickwork with plaster details and tile decorations that connect teaching rooms and prayer spaces.

The mosque rose in the 19th century under the Qajar dynasty at the request of a wealthy merchant as a learning center for a respected scholar. The project realized a traditional link between religious education and local community that was very common during that period.

The mosque shows traditional Persian building methods by linking teaching spaces with prayer areas, and visitors can experience how faith and learning came together. Crafted details like brickwork and tilework fill the space and reveal how religious education merged with daily practice here.

The building welcomes visitors during daytime hours and is easily reached on foot, with the courtyards serving as natural gathering points. Comfortable shoes work well since the level changes between the two sections and the many corners invite exploration.

The building uses a double-dome design that creates natural air circulation and keeps the interior cool on hot days. This hands-on solution shows how old builders adapted architecture to the climate without needing modern technology.
