Qaleh Bozi, Archaeological complex of caves near Isfahan, Iran
Qaleh Bozi is a prehistoric archaeological site comprising three distinct structures on a limestone hill near Isfahan. The location features two rock shelters and a cave situated at elevations between 1,750 and 1,810 meters.
Excavations conducted through 2008 uncovered numerous stone tools from the Middle Paleolithic period at this location. These discoveries show that early humans settled and repeatedly returned to this site.
The artifacts found here reveal how early people adapted to mountain living and hunted across surrounding lands. Their stone tools show the skills they developed to survive in this landscape.
The site sits roughly 25 kilometers south-southwest of Isfahan and overlooks the Zaiandeh Rud River nearby. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for the mountain elevation.
The cave location naturally provided inhabitants with reliable water access from the nearby river and warming sunlight in colder months. The surrounding terrain also gave them diverse hunting grounds right at their doorstep.
