Sheikh Bahai Citadel

Sheikh Bahai Citadel, Cultural heritage citadel in Najafabad, Iran.

Sheikh Bahai Citadel is a fortified complex with several towers connected by walls, displaying characteristic features of Safavid and Qajar architectural styles. The grounds also contain decorative pools and fountains integrated into the historical structure.

The complex developed during a period when Persian defensive structures merged practical functions with sophisticated design. Over time, it was adapted to reflect the architectural preferences of successive dynasties.

The structure takes its name from a prominent Persian scholar and architect, reflecting its connection to the region's intellectual heritage. Visitors can observe how the design merged defensive needs with daily living.

The site is accessible year-round, allowing visitors to explore the various sections of the fortification at their own pace. It helps to arrive with enough time to view all the towers and water features.

The citadel features a special entrance area called Shahneeshin, revealing how access to fortified structures was designed during that era. Additionally, pigeon towers were incorporated into the design and served as practical features of the fortification.
