Shah Mosque, 15th-century mosque in Mashhad, Iran.

The Shah Mosque is a mosque and mausoleum in Mashhad featuring a central dome rising to approximately 17 meters (57 feet), accompanied by two separate minarets. Dark-green glazed tiles cover the exterior surfaces and create the visual character of the building.

Construction began in 1451 during the Timurid dynasty on the site of an earlier mausoleum dedicated to Amir Ghiyath al-Din. Substantial renovations and modifications occurred under Safavid rule, reshaping the building over time.

The structure functions as a prayer space and site of veneration within the larger shrine complex dedicated to Imam Reza. It draws Shia pilgrims who come to honor the spiritual significance of the location.

The building sits within the Imam Reza Shrine complex, connected to other shrines and prayer spaces in the area. Visitors should know that the front entrance area now serves administrative functions.

The outer dome is covered with turquoise tiles bearing inscriptions of the Allahu-Samad text. This decorative shell protects an inner dome beneath which lies a crypt believed to belong to the ruler Amir Ghiyath al-Din Malik Shah.
