Jameh Mosque of Farumad, Historic mosque in Farumad, Iran.

The Jameh Mosque of Farumad is a house of prayer built from brick and plaster with two large arched openings on its north and south sides. The building showcases crafted decorations on its walls and ceilings, featuring colored plaster work and ceramic tiles.

The structure originated during the rule of the Khwarezm dynasty in the 12th century and gained its current appearance through renovations in the early 1300s. The reworking combined building styles from different cultures that ruled the region successively.

The mosque takes its name from the surrounding settlement and reflects the overlapping influences of multiple ruling periods through its decoration. Visitors can observe how different societies left their mark on the interior through carved plaster and tilework.

The mosque stands northeast of the city of Shahrud near the main road toward Mashhad and continues to serve as a place for communal prayer. Visitors should prepare for a visit by wearing respectful clothing and being mindful of ongoing religious activities.

Inside once rested the grave of a renowned medieval poet who gained recognition in Eastern literary circles. This connection between a place of worship and remembrance of a scholar made the site doubly significant to the community.
