Kobar Dam

Kobar Dam is an ancient masonry barrier built across a waterway in the region. The structure showcases a curved form with various internal passages and wall systems designed to control water flow and distribute pressure evenly.

This water control structure was built around the year 1300 during a period of regional transformation. Later modifications enhanced the dam's height and strength to improve its function.

The dam represents early Persian engineering methods, incorporating limestone foundations and strategic winged walls for enhanced structural support.

The site sits in hilly terrain and is most accessible during warmer months when paths and surroundings are easiest to traverse. Wearing sturdy footwear and checking local conditions before visiting is recommended.

Over the centuries, sediment and silt have accumulated behind the dam so heavily that the original water storage area is barely recognizable today. This accumulated material reveals how the landscape and water systems in the region have changed over time.
