Reykjanesbær

Reykjanesbær extends across the southwestern Reykjanes peninsula, encompassing the towns of Keflavík, Njarðvík, and the village of Hafnir over 145 square kilometers.

The settlement history dates to the 9th century, with archaeological findings in Höfn revealing one of Iceland's earliest Norse dwelling sites.

The area transformed significantly during the US military presence, as Keflavík Airport became Iceland's primary gateway and influenced local music and sports.

The municipality maintains three postal codes - 230, 231, and 233 - serving approximately 19,676 residents with essential services and administrative functions.

After the closure of Naval Air Station Keflavík in 2006, the area evolved into Ásbrú, an educational and business district supporting regional development.
