Reykjanesbær

Reykjanesbær is a municipality on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, encompassing the towns of Keflavík and Njarðvík along with the village of Hafnir. The area spans across volcanic terrain with coastal zones, residential neighborhoods, and commercial zones.

Settlement in the region began with Norse settlers in the 9th century, with archaeological evidence of early Norse occupation found in the area. The region's modern shape was formed by military presence in the 20th century, which transformed its economy and infrastructure.

The area reflects its strategic location through a diverse population and local traditions visible in restaurants, shops, and community events throughout the towns.

Keflavík Airport serves as the main entry point for visitors and the primary transportation hub for the region. Roads connect the towns well, and accommodation and dining options are scattered throughout the area.

Ásbrú, the former military site, was transformed into an education and business district after the US Naval Air Station closed. Today it hosts innovation hubs and companies reshaping the region's economic focus.
