Viking World museum

The Viking World museum displays the Íslendingur ship suspended in the air, allowing visitors to examine its hull and construction techniques from below.

The museum opened in 2009 and features archaeological artifacts that document Viking exploration across the North Atlantic from 800 to 1100 CE.

The permanent exhibition includes materials from the Smithsonian Institution describing Norse settlements, trade routes, and maritime techniques across multiple regions.

Located near Keflavík International Airport, the museum maintains daily operations from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and includes a conference room for 100 persons.

The Íslendingur vessel replicated the ancient Gokstad ship and sailed 4,200 nautical miles to North America in 2000 for Leif Ericsson's millennium celebration.
