Built in 1947, this concrete structure replaced the original 1918 lighthouse and continues to serve as a vital navigational aid for vessels in Icelandic waters.
The lighthouse interior now houses photography exhibitions and functions as a venue for concerts, making it a center for local artistic expression.
Visitors can climb to the observation deck throughout the year, with extended hours during summer months and special access for northern lights viewing in winter.
The facility maintains both the new operational lighthouse and its 1918 predecessor within walking distance, creating a rare double lighthouse configuration.
