The Arctic Fox Center

The Arctic Fox Center features an enclosed exhibition space displaying detailed information about Arctic foxes, their biology, behavior, and natural habitat patterns.

Local residents, tourist operators, and municipalities established this research facility on September 15th, 2007, with guidance from Professor Pall Hersteinsson.

The exhibition presents over a millennium of human-fox interactions in Iceland, including traditional hunting methods and their influence on current conservation practices.

The center operates daily from 9:00 to 18:00 during summer months, offering guided tours, research presentations, and access to an outdoor fox enclosure.

Research data indicates Arctic foxes in this region possess 20,000 hairs per square centimeter and maintain body heat without shivering until temperatures reach -70°C.
