Passignano sul Trasimeno, Medieval town in Umbria, Italy

Passignano sul Trasimeno is a fortified settlement on the shores of Lake Trasimeno in Umbria, situated at an elevation of 289 meters (948 feet). Defensive walls encircle the town center, with a fortress crowning the hilltop and overlooking the water below.

During World War II, the town hosted the SAI Ambrosini aircraft factory near the present-day railway station, where military planes were manufactured. This industrial facility left a mark on the area that remains visible in the landscape today.

The town honors Saint Christopher through celebrations and local traditions that shape the calendar of village life. Fresh fish from the lake appears regularly on restaurant menus, reflecting how the water's resources have long fed the community.

Regular boat services connect the town to Polvese and Maggiore islands in the lake, offering access to historical sites and natural areas worth exploring. These ferry routes make it easy to venture beyond the town and discover what the wider region has to offer.

The former buildings of the SAI Ambrosini aircraft factory still stand near the railway station, bearing witness to the town's wartime industrial past. The nearby Eleuteri airfield once served as a testing ground for the planes built in those workshops.
