Located 9 kilometers west of Turin, Collegno extends across 18 square kilometers of land at an elevation of 302 meters above sea level.
The settlement originated as a Roman mansio named Quintum Collegium, where excavations revealed a fifth-century church dedicated to San Massimo, Turin's first bishop.
The Charterhouse, commissioned by Maria Cristina of France in 1641, transformed from a monastery into a mental health facility that operated until the 1970s.
The municipality maintains strong transportation links to Turin through an integrated network of metro lines, buses, and regional train services.
Hungarian revolutionary leader Lajos Kossuth resided in Collegno from 1874 to 1882 in a villa near the train station.
