Leggiuno

Leggiuno is a commune in the Province of Varese in Lombardy, situated along the shores of Lake Maggiore with views across the water. The settlement is organized around the lakefront, with residential areas and open spaces that look toward the distant mountains.

The area was settled from ancient times, suggested by its Latin name Legiodunum, which indicates a Roman military presence. Over the centuries, the settlement evolved as the region developed and trade routes around the lake became established.

The village is the birthplace of footballer Gigi Riva, who became a sports legend after leaving to pursue his career. It was also chosen as a refuge by tenor Giuseppe Borgatti, the renowned opera singer who spent his final years here.
