Codogno, Administrative center in Province of Lodi, Italy
Codogno is a town in the Province of Lodi in Lombardy, situated about fifty metres above sea level on the flat plain southeast of Milan. The settlement spreads across several neighbourhoods with residential streets, shops and public buildings linked by roads and small squares.
The settlement grew during the Middle Ages at a crossroads of trade routes and later expanded as an administrative hub of the Lodigiano. Industry and infrastructure extended the urban core throughout the twentieth century, shaping its present layout.
Saint Blaise celebrations on February 3rd bring together the 15,000 residents of Codogno for traditional ceremonies and community gatherings.
Schools, health centres and bus stops are scattered across the residential areas, linking inhabitants to surrounding towns and Milan. Public facilities are accessible during normal business hours and many streets can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
The church of San Biagio in the historic core preserves frescoes from the sixteenth century and serves as a focal point for the annual February celebration. Many residents visit on that day and during other moments in the liturgical calendar.
