Alba Adriatica, Coastal commune in Province of Teramo, Italy
Alba Adriatica is a coastal commune stretching along the Adriatic Sea with extensive sandy beaches and a dedicated cycling path that runs parallel to the shoreline. The town sits at minimal elevation above sea level, making the terrain naturally flat throughout the area.
The area was originally marshy terrain that became settled after defensive towers were built in the 16th century to protect against Ottoman and North African raids. These fortifications formed the foundation for the community's gradual development into a stable settlement.
The town hosts the San Vincenzo Ferreri festival in late April, when local residents and visitors gather for agricultural fairs, games, and traditional performances that reflect the area's connection to its patron saint.
The town is well connected to major Italian cities through the A14 motorway and regional railway services, with airports in nearby Pescara and Ancona within reasonable distance. The flat terrain throughout the area makes walking and cycling simple and accessible for most visitors.
The beach earned the nickname Spiaggia d'argento because of its fine sand quality and received the European Blue Flag certification from 2000 through 2013. This recognition reflects the consistent cleanliness and environmental standards that continue to characterize the shoreline today.
