Candela, Medieval commune in Foggia Province, Italy

Candela is a town in Foggia Province that sits on two hills, San Rocco and San Tommaso, at roughly 474 meters elevation. The settlement occupies the area between the Ofanto River valley and the Carapelle Torrent.

The settlement formed during the early medieval period when residents sought refuge on the hills during invasions, first documented in records from 1066. The Church of Santa Maria della Strada dates to the 11th century and reflects the area's religious development.

The Church of Santa Maria della Strada exhibits Romanesque architecture from the 11th century, representing the religious traditions of the region.

You can reach the town via the A16 Napoli-Canosa highway or by train connections to nearby Melfi and Foggia stations. Its location makes it easy to explore the surrounding area and travel to and from larger urban centers.

The upper section of Candela contains the Port of Citadel entrance, featuring a mosaic that commemorates the celebration of Candlemas.
