Soverato

Soverato is a coastal town along the Ionian Sea in Catanzaro Province, stretching over several flat residential areas and a central beach section. The built-up zone runs along the shore and includes both older quarters and newer streets that developed parallel to the water.

The settlement emerged after an earthquake destroyed an older inland village in the 16th century, prompting inhabitants to move down to the coast. Over the centuries, the place grew into an administrative center in Calabria.

The name hints at old settlement layers, while today life unfolds in the lanes and main square among cafés, small shops and houses. Families gather in the evening along the waterfront or on the beach, where much of the town's social rhythm takes place during summer.

Access is usually through Lamezia Terme International Airport, followed by a southward drive along the coastal road. In summer the beach fills during the day, while the promenade and town center come alive in the evening.

Among towns in Calabria, this place records the highest per capita income in the entire region. This economic particularity shows in the building style and in the range of services offered along the waterfront.
