Cusano Mutri is a mountain town in the Province of Benevento, situated at roughly 450 meters elevation amid limestone ridges and dense forests of the Matese Regional Park. The settlement spreads across hilly terrain with traditional stone houses nestled into the slopes.
The area was known in antiquity as Cossa and experienced conflicts between Romans and Samnites. In the medieval period, the territory underwent several transformations under Frankish and Norman rule through the 15th century.
