Montesarchio, Medieval commune in Valle Caudina, Benevento Province, Italy.

Montesarchio is a small Italian commune in the Province of Benevento, nestled below Monte Taburno and spreading across hilly terrain. The settlement clusters around historic structures including a castle and several churches that anchor the townscape.

The town traces its roots to ancient Caudium, site of a major Roman defeat against the Samnites in 321 BCE. This early history established the region's strategic importance and influenced its later development.

The D'Avalos Castle and Church of Saint Francis shape the town center and reflect how faith and noble authority shaped daily life here. Walking through the old streets, visitors notice how these buildings still define the character of the place and draw people together.

The town sits in the hills south of Naples and is easily reached by car or public transport. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as the uneven streets and hilly terrain require steady walking.

The town preserves a marble fountain in its main square, a quiet testament to local craftsmanship often overlooked by passing visitors. This structure offers a peaceful spot where one can pause and take in the surroundings.
