Castello Pignatelli della Leonessa

The castle stands at 372 meters above sea level with defensive walls, towers, and a central courtyard surrounding the residential palace complex.

Built during the Norman period, the fortress became property of the Lagonesse family in 1343, who later changed their name to della Leonessa.

The grand hall features wooden floors, coffered ceilings, and 17th-18th century frescoes depicting historical scenes of the della Leonessa family.

Visitors access the castle through a stone-paved path from Piazza del Gaudio, leading to a monumental entrance portal and parade ground.

The castle contains a consecrated chapel from 1706, prison cells, guard houses, and a rainwater collection system within its medieval structure.
