Collegio Alberoni

Collegio Alberoni is an educational institution that houses a seminary, art gallery, observatory, natural sciences museum, library, and attached church under one complex. The facility integrates spiritual formation with scientific study and cultural display.

A cardinal established the institution in the early 18th century to train priests for the local diocese. After suffering war damage, it reopened in the mid-1700s and has served this purpose ever since.

The art gallery displays works by masters like Antonello da Messina and Guido Reni, alongside a striking collection of large Flemish tapestries. Visitors encounter Italian and Northern European artistic traditions side by side here.

The complex is located in the San Lazzaro neighborhood and offers multiple areas to explore. Be aware that some sections like the observatory and seminary retain active religious and educational functions.

The complex houses an astronomy observatory built in the 1800s that was designed specifically for the scientific education of seminarians. This unusual combination of theological study and astronomical research remains a distinctive feature.
