Basilica di Sant'Antonino

Basilica di Sant'Antonino, Minor basilica in Piacenza, Italy.

Basilica di Sant'Antonino is a minor basilica in Piacenza featuring an octagonal bell tower and a Latin cross floor plan with transepts extending from the central nave. Two entrances on the north and south sides provide access to the main worship space.

The basilica was built between 350 and 375 under Bishop San Vittore as an early Christian place of worship in the region. In 1004, Bishop Sigifredo undertook major reconstruction work, adding the octagonal tower and transepts that define its appearance today.

The basilica serves as a place of veneration for Saints Antoninus and Victor, whose remains lie beneath the main altar and draw pilgrims seeking spiritual connection to these revered figures.

The basilica is easily reached on foot from Piacenza's city center, with accessible entrances on both the north and south sides. As an active worship space, visitors should maintain respectful behavior and modest dress when entering.

The basilica's archives preserve a remarkable collection of parchments spanning from the 7th to 14th centuries that document the region's medieval past. These handwritten manuscripts offer rare insights into how local communities lived and organized their religious and civic life during that era.
