Villa Medici

Villa Medici is a residential building situated on a hillside near Florence, constructed with a four-sided layout featuring stone elements and covered loggias spread across three terraced levels. The structure integrates living spaces, gardens, and viewing platforms in a unified design.

Giovanni de' Medici commissioned the villa's construction around the mid-1400s as a country residence outside the city. The building later became an important gathering place for the Medici family and influenced how aristocrats built villas across Italy.

The villa served as a summer retreat for the Medici family, one of Florence's most powerful dynasties, reflecting how the wealthy lived during the Renaissance. Walking through its spaces reveals the lifestyle and values of an influential merchant family during this period.

The property sits on a hillside and is reached on foot, though the walk involves some climbing from the nearest road. It is wise to check visiting times in advance and understand the easiest routes to approach the building.

The gardens are divided into three levels and preserve their original Renaissance layout with cypress-lined walkways and a central water fountain. This arrangement has remained largely unchanged for over 500 years and gives a real sense of how gardens were designed during that period.
