Pagani

Pagani is a commune in the Province of Salerno in the Campania region and stretches across flat terrain near the Sarno River. The settlement area sits between several neighboring towns and forms part of the larger agglomeration of the plain between Nocera and Sarno.

The first settlements appeared during Roman times, when the area was farmed and stood under the influence of Nuceria. In the Middle Ages the place grew through ecclesiastical foundations and developed into an independent center in the fertile plain.

The town takes its name from the Roman settlers who lived here, and the reference to the Latin word for rural dwellers still appears in the place name today. The parish church in the center draws locals who regularly attend mass and celebrate religious festivals according to old custom.

The road network connects the town with surrounding cities and provides access to regional routes. The municipal administration offers information on public facilities and services for visitors.

The area saw archaeological excavations that brought to light remains of ancient villas and workshops from the Roman era. These findings show that the area was farmed and inhabited intensively centuries ago.
