Bolzaneto

Bolzaneto is a residential district in Genoa's Polcevera Valley that combines housing with industrial areas. The Polcevera river runs through the valley floor while mountains rise on either side.

The railway line from Genoa to Turin, built in the mid-1800s, transformed this place from a rural village into an expanding industrial area. This connection brought economic growth and a shift in how the land was used.

The Church of Santa Maria della Neve and the Monastery of San Francesco alla Chiappetta shape the neighborhood's character and reflect local religious traditions. You can still sense the devotional history through these buildings that remain active in community life.

The district is well connected by road through National Road 35 and Highway A7 linking it to other parts of Genoa and beyond. The railway station offers train service to multiple regional destinations.

Two fortresses, Fort Diamante and Fratello Minore, rise on the mountains behind the district as part of Genoa's outer defense ring. These structures show how the heights held military importance for protecting the city.
