Forte Begato, Military fort in Genoa, Italy
Located at 475 meters above sea level, Forte Begato features a quadrangular structure with four corner bastions and a central courtyard spanning multiple levels.
The Savoy Corps of Engineers constructed Forte Begato between 1818 and 1831 as part of the defensive system protecting Genoa from potential invasions.
The fort represents early 19th-century military engineering, demonstrating the architectural capabilities and defensive strategies of the Sardinian government.
Visitors can reach the fort by following Via del Peralto from Righi or taking the ancient walls trail from Belvedere Hill to Forte Sperone.
The fort contained storage facilities for 41,000 kilos of ammunition and 1,500 square meters of supply warehouses to support a garrison of 840 soldiers.
