Museum of the world cultures

Museum of the world cultures, Museum of World Cultures in Montegalletto Hill, Genoa, Italy.

The Museum of World Cultures is housed in a neo-Gothic castle on Montegalletto Hill and contains archaeological and ethnographic collections from five continents. The rooms feature African weaponry, Mesoamerican artifacts, and numerous other crafted objects from different periods and regions.

Captain Enrico Alberto D'Albertis built this castle between 1886 and 1892 following his travels around the world. After his death in 1932, he bequeathed the building and his collection to Genoa, where it now operates as a museum.

The museum displays objects that reflect different world cultures, allowing visitors to experience artistic pieces and craftsmanship techniques from Africa, Oceania, and America directly. The exhibition rooms are arranged so you can understand the various lifestyles and traditions of these peoples.

The building sits on a hill and is best reached on foot or with a short walk. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore the various rooms at a relaxed pace.

The museum contains specialized rooms such as a Turkish living room and Colombian room with objects that show the everyday life and aesthetics of these cultures. These rooms were arranged with over 1300 old books dating from the 14th to 19th century, offering a rare glimpse into historical knowledge collections.
