Église San Matteo di Rialto, Medieval Catholic church near Rialto Bridge, Venice, Italy.
Located in the San Polo district of Venice, San Matteo di Rialto church established its presence along the main commercial path near Rialto Bridge.
The church was constructed in 1156 on land donated by Leonardo Coronario to the Patriarch of Grado, marking its foundation as a parish church.
The Macellai butchers' guild received patronage rights from Pope Eugene IV in 1436, gaining authority to select the church's parish priests.
The building underwent two major structural modifications: a restoration in 1615 and a complete reconstruction in 1735 before its final demolition in 1818.
San Matteo di Rialto represents one of several religious structures that once stood in the Rialto area during Venice's commercial peak period.
