Buonconvento, Medieval commune in Province of Siena, Italy

Buonconvento is a small commune in the Province of Siena in Tuscany, distinguished by medieval walls and a historic town center. The town has preserved traditional architecture and features a museum with important artworks from the region.

The German emperor Henry VII died in Buonconvento in 1313, an event that drew the Republic of Siena's attention to the town. The republic subsequently built defensive walls in 1371 to protect and control the area.

The Museum of Sacred Art in Palazzo Ricci houses works by painters such as Duccio di Buoninsegna and Pietro Lorenzetti. When you visit, you can see these masterpieces from Tuscan art history displayed in their original context.

The town has railway connections to Siena and Florence, making it easy to reach. You can find lodging options ranging from traditional hotels to rural guesthouses on nearby farms.

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul houses a remarkable painting of Madonna Enthroned with Child from 1450 by Matteo di Giovanni. This work demonstrates the artistic skill that painters of that era brought to local sacred art.
