Agnone

Agnone sits on a hilltop at 830 meters elevation near the Verrino river, spreading across nine distinct quarters filled with medieval buildings and stone houses. The layout of these neighborhoods still shapes how the community is organized and how people move through the town.

The settlement traces back to Roman times, with evidence of Samnite civilization visible in remains scattered around the area. The community developed through centuries while maintaining its position in the Molise region.

The Ndocciata festival in December brings residents from different quarters together, carrying large wooden torches through streets while bagpipe music plays. This celebration shows how the town still honors the divisions between its nine neighborhoods as separate communities.

The Pontificia Foundry Marinelli has operated since 1000 AD, casting bronze bells that ship to churches and institutions worldwide. A museum inside documents the metalworking techniques and pieces spanning more than a thousand years.
