Fiuggi, Thermal springs town in Province of Frosinone, Italy
Fiuggi is a commune in the Province of Frosinone in Lazio, known for its thermal water springs. The place divides into an older quarter on a hilltop and a newer zone with spa facilities in the valley below.
The springs were already known in Roman times, and their reputation grew in the 14th century when popes and nobles came here to drink the water. In the 20th century, the spa zone at the foot of the hill developed into a modern thermal resort.
Residents share water from the springs with visitors who come to the town to drink it directly from fountains in parks and public spaces. Many carry glass bottles or small containers to take the water home with them.
The two main springs are located in separate areas of the town, accessible on foot or by car. Visitors find shaded avenues around the thermal sites that work well for walks between treatments.
The thermal water from these springs is so lightly mineralized that it is drunk cold and does not need to be heated like in many other spa towns. Bottles of this water often carry the name of the town and are sold in supermarkets across Italy.
