Quartu Sant'Elena, Coastal commune in Metropolitan City of Cagliari, Italy.

Quartu Sant'Elena is the third largest city in Sardinia, stretching along a varied coastline with sandy beaches and rocky coves. The area also includes the Molentargius pond, where flamingos regularly gather, creating a natural habitat that attracts birdwatchers and nature lovers.

The settlement grew from its location about four miles east of Cagliari and took its name from Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine. Over centuries, it developed from a small village into one of Sardinia's major coastal towns.

Local artisans continue making wines, breads, and cakes using methods passed down through families and rooted in Sardinian traditions. Visitors can find these homemade products in local shops and markets throughout the town.

The town center has several shopping areas with major stores like Carrefour and Iper Pan for everyday shopping needs. Various restaurants and cafés line the main streets, making it easy to find a place to eat or rest between exploring the beaches and natural areas.

In 1793, local residents led by Antonio Pisanu successfully defended their coast against a French naval attack. This episode remains part of local pride and shows the town's history as more than just a beach destination.
