Parco della Musica, Concert hall and theatre complex in Parioli, Italy
The Auditorium Parco della Musica is a concert hall and theatre complex in the Parioli district of Rome with three main halls of different sizes. The largest hall offers over 2,700 seats, the middle one more than 1,100, and the smallest around 670 seats for different performance formats.
Construction work in the 1990s uncovered the remains of a Roman villa, leading to archaeological excavations beneath the central courtyard. A small museum was established to preserve these ancient finds and make them accessible to visitors.
The name honors Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music, who has been linked to Roman musical tradition for centuries. Today orchestras and ensembles use the halls for performances, while visitors stroll through the park between concerts and enjoy the open atmosphere.
The complex sits near public transport and has ample parking for drivers. A large park surrounds the buildings and offers space to relax before or after performances.
The roofs of the three halls are covered with lead and resemble oversized musical instruments arranged in a circle around an open-air theatre. This amphitheatre holds around 3,000 spectators and is used for outdoor performances.

Renzo Piano, born in Genoa in 1937, has developed an architectural language over five decades that combines technical precision with human scale. His buildings are characterized by transparent facades, visible structural elements, and the integration of natural light. The Centre Pompidou in Paris, completed in 1977 with Richard Rogers, displays building services on the exterior. The Whitney Museum in New York uses industrial materials within a residential neighborhood. The Shard in London reaches 309 meters with a glass facade that reflects daylight. His cultural buildings connect function with urban context. The Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel sits within a park with glass walls between interior and exterior spaces. The Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome comprises three concert halls with different acoustics. Kansai Airport in Osaka stands on an artificial island with a 1.7-kilometer terminal. Piano received the Pritzker Prize in 1998 for his work.
