Church of San Pietro, Romanesque church in Ghilarza, Italy.
The Church of San Pietro is a Romanesque building in Ghilarza featuring rounded arches and a bell tower positioned on its northern side. The structure displays a wooden roof and characteristic design elements typical of the medieval Romanesque period.
The church was moved from its original location near the Tirso river in the 1920s when Lake Omodeo was created. This relocation became necessary to prevent the building from being submerged by the new water reservoir.
Master Anselm of Como constructed this church in 1291 under the direction of Abbess Sardinia de Lacon, as recorded on the facade inscription.
The building is best reached by exiting the SS 131 highway at Abbasanta and following marked signs. The routes lead toward the Zuri district, where the church is easy to access on foot.
The church measures 34 meters in length and contains a three-lobed niche inside, with elements preserved from the original facade construction.
