Chiaravalle della Colomba Abbey

The rectangular monastic complex features a grand basilica with Romanesque and Gothic elements, complemented by a 13th-century cloister with marble columns.

Founded in 1135 by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux at the request of Arduino, Bishop of Piacenza, the abbey played a central role in northern Italy's religious life.

The monastery maintains Cistercian traditions through daily prayers, agricultural work, and the preservation of medieval religious manuscripts and artifacts.

Located between Piacenza and Parma, the abbey welcomes visitors throughout the year to explore its church, cloister, and religious museum exhibits.

The monastery earned its name 'Colomba' from a white dove that, according to local tradition, guided the original monks to select this construction site.
