Giarre, Sicilian municipality near Mount Etna, Italy
Located between Catania and Taormina, Giarre extends from the slopes of Mount Etna down to the shores of the Ionian Sea at 81 meters elevation.
The settlement originated from the late 16th century until 1815 as part of the Mascali county, later merging with Riposto under the name Jonia until 1945.
The Museum of Uses and Customs of the Etna People presents collections that document the traditions and daily life of local communities through generations.
The straight Corso Italia connects the town center directly to the sea at Riposto, offering numerous shops, restaurants, and access to transportation services.
The town contains multiple unfinished public buildings from the 1990s, creating an unusual architectural landscape that reflects incomplete development projects.
