Duomo di Sant'Isidoro

Duomo di Sant'Isidoro is a neoclassical church in Giarre with a Latin cross layout and an interior divided by paired columns into three naves. Two square bell towers stand on the eastern facade, creating a balanced and symmetrical appearance typical of neoclassical design.

Construction began in 1794 under architect Pietro Valente to replace a smaller 17th-century church on the same site. This new building introduced a modern neoclassical style to replace the earlier religious structure that had served the community.

The interior displays religious artworks by local Sicilian painters from the 18th and 19th centuries, showing biblical scenes throughout the space. Visitors can observe how these paintings reflect the artistic traditions and devotion that shaped the community.

The church sits at Piazza del Duomo in the town center, making it easy to reach on foot from nearby areas. Check opening hours before visiting, as guided tours of the interior and artworks are sometimes available.

The church houses a Serassi pipe organ built in 1865 that remains fully functional after several restorations over the decades. This remarkable instrument showcases the craftsmanship of 19th-century organ builders and continues to be used for liturgical music.
