Archeoparc Schnals, Archaeological museum and park in Schnals, Italy.
Archeoparc Schnals is an archaeological museum and park in a mountain village in South Tyrol, spread across several thousand square meters. It displays Neolithic dwellings and workshops alongside artifacts and demonstrations of ancient crafting methods.
The park was founded following the discovery of Ötzi, a preserved human from the Copper Age, and became the first archaeological center in South Tyrol. This finding made the valley important for understanding early mountain populations.
Visitors come here to try their hand at ancient crafts like pottery and fire-starting in a hands-on way. The reconstructed dwellings show how people actually lived and worked during prehistoric times.
The site sits at high elevation on a sloped terrain, so comfortable walking shoes are advisable for exploring the grounds. Visitors will find a coffeehouse and shop on-site, along with information available in several languages.
A fish pond on the grounds shows which water creatures lived in the area during prehistoric times and how important they were for food. Visitors can see the landscape as it may have appeared thousands of years ago.
