Salemi

Salemi is a commune in the hills of Trapani Province where narrow streets wind through residential neighborhoods. The buildings sit on a hillside and form a connected settlement visible from the surrounding area.

The area was shaped by different cultures over the decades and shows influences from various periods. After a major earthquake in 1968, a large part of the town was rebuilt and renewed.

The residents maintain strong religious traditions through six active parishes, with Saint Nicholas serving as the patron saint of the community.

The town sits on a hillside and can be explored on foot, though the steep streets require sturdy shoes. Good weather makes a visit more pleasant, and there are various routes through the community offering different perspectives.

The town contains multiple architectural periods within its urban layout, from medieval structures to modern buildings that reflect various construction techniques.
